Thai energy company Gulf has set up a new holding company, Gulf Edge Data Center Company Limited (GEDC), to house its data center investments. The Thailand stock exchange announcement this week did not state a capital amount for the new entity.

GEDC is wholly owned through Gulf Edge Limited. It will focus on developing and providing data center services, plus related businesses supporting data center operations.

What does the new structure change?

Gulf has invested in data centers to date through GSA Holdings Limited, which holds stakes in multiple projects. The new GEDC will take a 70 percent stake in the Gulf Edge Data Center 01 project and will serve as a holding company for further investments.

The company has also established holding companies for its GEDC 02, GEDC 03, and GEDC 04 projects. The announcement did not disclose timelines, capacities, or locations for those three.

The parent company is no startup. Gulf, with roots back to 1994, owns roughly 23GW of gas and renewable power plants across Thailand, Vietnam, and the US, and operates in telecoms through AIS and satellite firm Thaicom.

How large is the pipeline?

Gulf's data center portfolio now spans several projects at different stages:

  • GSA 01, Samut Prakan province: set to total 25.6MW. No live date was given.
  • GSA 02, Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Chonburi province: 38MW, due live in Q1 2027.
  • GEDC 01, EEC zone, Rayong province: 100MW, under construction, due live in Q4 2027.
  • GEDC 02, 03, 04: holding companies set up; no capacities announced.

The largest disclosed site, GEDC 01, roughly equals three GSA 02 facilities. That marks a shift in scale.

Who are Gulf's partners?

Gulf's Gulf Edge unit has previously signed a "strategic partnership" agreement with Google Cloud for access to AI infrastructure (computing capacity for training and running AI models). The announcement this week did not say whether GEDC will absorb that agreement, nor what the partnership covers commercially.

Last year, Gulf announced that its GSA02 project will host Microsoft. The filing did not repeat that detail.

Gulf and AIS have also previously partnered with Singtel and its data center unit Nxtra on a 20MW data center outside Bangkok. Whether that asset moves under GEDC remains unstated.

What remains unclear?

The filing names the structure and the 70 percent stake. It omits the price, the minority holder of GEDC 01, and any revenue or customer commitments. A corporate reorganization does not itself add capacity; the 163.6MW of disclosed projects carries delivery dates in 2027. Until then, the new company's function is organizational, not operational.
