FiveNines Group and Nexus Core Systems will build a 20MW data center on the outskirts of Casablanca, Morocco, designed for high-density AI computing and equipped with Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 systems.

FiveNines, a UK-based design, engineering and construction company, will manage design management, technical governance, consultant coordination, constructability, and procurement strategy for the project.

Gerry Curran, CEO of FiveNines Group, said: "We are delighted to partner with Nexus Core Systems in order to construct an advanced data center in North Africa. This project will bring together our international data center expertise with Moroccan architects, engineers, technical advisers, and relevant authorities."

Bastian Remmlinger, head of infrastructure at Nexus Core Systems, added: "We are very pleased with the cooperation and services FiveNines Group has provided so far. Their team has supported us well as we shape the design and delivery approach for the Morocco data center. We look forward to continuing our work together on this ambitious project."

What does the facility feed into?

The Casablanca data center will form part of the Nexus AI Factory Platform. Through this platform, Nexus aims to establish a 180MW "advanced infrastructure hub" running on renewable energy. Nexus first revealed its plans for a 20MW facility in the region in April 2026.

Before that announcement, Nexus was reported to be working with Korea's Naver on a 500MW project in Morocco, targeting an initial 40MW.

What else does Nexus Core Systems have in its pipeline?

The company's website lists several planned projects:

  • A 12-hectare Moroccan site
  • A 10MW site in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Capacity totaling 40MW across Sweden

Nexus claims it can support up to 400kW per rack via liquid cooling. The 20MW Casablanca data center does not appear on the website's project list.

The company's CEO and cofounder is Christopher Yoshida, a managing partner at boutique global advisory and private investment vehicle Pinetree Partners. He previously served as CFO at Northern Data.

Who is FiveNines Group?

FiveNines is a UK-based construction company, distinct from 5Nines, a colocation provider. The firm recently delivered a 9.6MW data center to a hyperscale customer in Austria.

How large is Morocco's data center market?

Morocco currently has a small data center footprint. Casablanca and Rabat are its largest data center markets, with operators including Orange, N+One, and Inwi.
